The Naturalization Test & Study Materials
Passing a Naturalization test is one of the requirements to become a United States citizen. The test is designed to make sure you are able to speak, write and read basic English and that you are familiar with U.S. history and government.
The Naturalization test is administered by the USCIS officer during your interview and consists of:
- READING 1 out of 3 sentences correctly in English
- WRITING 1 out of 3 sentences correctly in English
- Being able to communicate in English with the USCIS officer during the interview
- ANSWERING 6 out of 10 civic questions correctly (these questions are about United States history and government)
You will have two opportunities to take the Naturalization test – the first one during your interview, and if you don’t pass, you may retake the portion that you failed between 60 and 90 days from the date of your interview.
We have provided the study materials for you here. They consist of 100 questions and answers you should know for your test. The USCIS officer will choose the 10 questions for your test from these 100 questions – so the more you know the better your chances of passing the first time around. Flashcards are also available here to help you study. If for some reason you cannot open the file, contact our office and we will be glad to mail you a printed copy of the study materials.
There are also exceptions in which certain people may be exempted from the tests or may have it modified to accommodate any disabilities, in which case Cohen & Forman will take all the necessary steps to facilitate these exceptions for you.
We recommend that you start studying for the Naturalization test as soon as you apply for citizenship. Good luck and remember:
